There’s always a tremendous feeling of achievement when our team are recognised for their hard work here at The Small Holding. For us, the bottom line is to cook and serve real food for our customers first and foremost, so to be acknowledged alongside our peers – be it through public vote or by industry judges – has been the icing on the cake for our kitchen and front of house staff since launching last April.
In October 2018, we were thrilled to be honoured with the accolade of Chef of the Year at the Kent Life Food & Drink Awards for Will Devlin. We were up against fierce competition from some fantastic fellow Kent chefs who we respect and admire, and it was even more momentous to receive the award less than a year after opening, in addition to a nod for Restaurant of the Year.
“Will Devlin was Kent Life’s richly-deserved winner of the 2018 Chef of the Year Award, up against two other strong finalists,” says the magazine’s editor, Sarah Sturt. “Will has such passion for growing so much of the produce onsite – a lovely guy with a great, supportive team around him.”
We’ve likewise been shortlisted in the top three finalists of the 2019 Taste of Kent Awards for Kent Restaurant of the Year! Spearheaded by Produced in Kent since 2004, they’re the county’s longest-running and most prestigious awards, showcasing the best of Kent’s locally-sourced food and drink and homegrown produce – the winners will be officially revealed at an awards dinner on March 7.
Elsewhere, we’re celebrating our recent inclusion in The Good Food Guide’s top vegan restaurants list. We always strive to make our modern British vegan choices as organic, exciting and innovative as possible, so it’s great to be featured with a glowing review of our field-to-fork ethos.
Plus, with further shout-outs from Muddy Stilettos and a mention in this month’s Waitrose Magazine, we couldn’t be happier with the continued support we get from our customers, reviewers and nurturing culinary community in Kent. And there’s plenty more still to come from our Kilndown restaurant in 2019, so watch this space for some unmissable events, menus, collaborations and much, much more…
