Since opening our doors, we’ve prided ourselves on taking a different approach to all that we do – including the festive period. Of course, we’re still creating unforgettable dishes for our customers, however you’re unlikely to find the usual pigs in blankets and Brussels sprouts as part of our Kent Christmas!
This year marks our first Noel in Kilndown. Our farm continues to provide much of the fresh produce and ingredients we need for our menus, bringing together plates that make the most of the natural bounty outside, while also adding a Yuletide feel that’s unmistakably our own.
Here’s why a Kent Christmas at The Small Holding is one with a difference…
An event to remember
We’re not like most pubs or restaurants at Christmas. Instead of turkey with the trimmings, we prefer to do things our own way, bringing our unique culinary flair into the colder months with just as much creativity and individuality. Everything is still picked seasonally on our doorstep, ensuring consistency in seasonality, and putting a wintry twist on our dishes and dining experience. It’s a Yuletide treat you’re not likely to forget.
Our Half-Acre and Full-Acre offerings have something to satisfy taste buds at the most wonderful time of the year. While we don’t specifically serve a ‘Christmas menu’, we’re all about keeping things as seasonal as possible, meaning you’ll find plenty of winter warmers to enjoy. For us, the goose, beetroot and sorrel is a real highlight, along with the hen’s egg, honey and caviar – both pack a punch and are full of festive flavour.
Eat, drink and be merry
What better way to see in the holiday season than with a delicious aperitif? We love working with local vineyards, breweries and distilleries to create showstopping cocktails and serves. If you’re having a Christmas work do or get-together with friends, we can highly recommend gins from Greensand Ridge, Mayfield Gin and 1606 Gin, or why not treat yourself to a fresh and floral Bacchus Gin from Chapel Down in Tenterden?
Festive fun in Kent
Kilndown is a wonderful place to be at this time of year, bringing the magic of the season to life. There are lots of attractions nearby like Bewl Water, Scotney Castle and Bedgebury Pinetum, all of which host a variety of events in the run-up to December 25th. That means you can make a day of it with friends and family, before joining us for a warming meal by the fire.
Kent Christmas in the countryside
Overlooking our farm, The Small Holding’s idyllic, picturesque setting and cosy, inviting rustic interiors perfectly capture the appeal of rural Kent at its finest. You can savour a pint, glass of wine or something stronger with a bite to eat, before or after embarking on a crisp, brisk winter walk around the area. As far as we’re concerned, there’s no better place to spend Christmas than the Garden of England.
